| Resumo | The Espinhaço Mountains are considered one of the most important centers of plant endemism in Brazil. These endemic species are distributed along a landscape composed of several environmental factors acting in different scales, such as the regional climate and the topographical complexity. This study analyzed, using remote sensing products, the spatial and temporal distribution of precipitation and temperature patterns along the southern Espinhaço Mountains, to subsidize future studies on the interaction of biodiversity and climatic patterns. We used the products CHIRPS (precipitation) and MODIS MOD11A2 (temperature) were used. We calculated the averages and extreme values of each product. Well-defined latitudinal patterns for precipitation were observed, as well as longitudinal patterns for temperature, which were directly related to the South Atlantic Convergence Zone and the Atlantic Tropical Mass, respectively. The topography of the Espinhaço Mountains acted as a temperature divisor, and showed evidence of acting as a local orographic barrier for precipitation. This work provided the visualization of these patterns through remote sensing products, giving spatial continuity to the observed phenomena, extrapolating the limited vision of observations in situ, common in studies of this genre, which often masks the real regional climatic conditions. Furthermore, this study provided an overview about the close relations between climate and topography, showing the influences of the relief on patterns of temperature and precipitation. Those analyses can assist further investigations on how species are distributed along topoclimate gradients in tropical mountainous environments. |
